Heyo people! Beervana is coming up so here is some info on our Festive Beer contribution. The theme this year is ‘Salute Fallen Heroes’ as a commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of the beginning of WW1 and the Gallipoli campaign in 2015 with the mandatory additional ingredients being Oats and Golden Syrup. We wanted to give tribute to the ANZAC soldier’s resourcefulness. Throughout the campaign our soldiers were poorly supplied and had to be a touch innovative. In particular there was a lack of grenades which it turns out are pretty key in trench warfare. The engineers got to work, fashioning grenades on site from the tins of the Jam which formed a part of the soldier’s daily diet.

This year we bring you Jam Grenade. A punchy Amber ale, with a generous dosing of boysenberry jam.

It was a pretty fun brew day up at Massey Palmerston North. Michelle and Myself ended up snacking on a bit of the leftover jam which tasted amazing, especially on gingernuts! We added around about 9kg of Jam to a 200 litre batch and tasting the final product it is very Jammy, for lack of a better word to describe it. Cheers everyone!
